HERSHEY, Pa. (AP) - Make that three consecutive state championships for Neumann-Goretti’s powerful yet remarkably resilient Saints.
Heck, even an early double-digit deficit could not deter Andrea Peterson’s club.
Ashley Jones collected 20 points and Chyna Nixon added 19 as Neumann-Goretti collared the PIAA Class 3A basketball championship with a come-from-behind 62-56 victory over Bishop Canevin Saturday at Giant Center.
The state championship was the third in as many years for the Saints (24-5), who trailed by as many as 12 points in the opening quarter before rallying.
Neumann-Goretti really turned it on in the second quarter, taking its initial lead with 1:32 remaining in the first half when Nixon scored on a layup.
Once they popped in front, Peterson’s Saints never relinquished the lead.
Shamyjha Price topped Canevin’s Crusaders (23-6) with 21 points, while Brionna Allen popped a double-double by scoring 15 points and snaring 11 rebounds.
