MASHPEE, Mass. (AP) - No criminal charges will be brought against the driver of a pickup truck who struck and killed a Cape Cod toddler in his driveway last month.

Fourteen-month-old Camden Ahanu Hendricks, a member of the Mashpee Wampanoag (WAHM’-pah-nahg) Tribe, died of his injuries in the Feb. 24 crash.

The Cape Cod Times reports (https://bit.ly/2mz5QMR ) police investigators determined the driver probably couldn’t see Camden due to the vehicle’s height and the toddler’s size.

His father, Milteer Hendricks Jr., was hanging off the side of the truck when he instructed the driver to pull forward around a trash bin. The driver hit Camden, who was sitting on the other side of the trash bin.

Police Chief Scott Carline says the death appears to be “a tragic accident.”
