TANEYTOWN, Md. (AP) - Fire officials say a 2-year-old girl has died in a house fire in Carroll County.
Senior Deputy Fire Marshal Bruce Bouch said in a news release Thursday that firefighters found the girl dead in her crib in the attic of a Taneytown (TAW-nee-town) house.
Authorities say the girl’s mother briefly left the home Wednesday afternoon to get her 6-year-old son at a bus stop. When she and the boy returned home, her 4-year-old son told her there was a fire in the attack.
Investigators say the mother tried to get to her daughter, but was driven back by smoke and heat.
The medical examiner say the girl died of smoke and burn injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
