HOUSTON (AP) - The family of a suburban Houston teenager who committed suicide says officials are refusing a request to create an “In Memoriam” page in her high school yearbook in her honor.
KRPC-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2mwoC7S ) family members of 17-year-old Hannah Hollis were told by administrators at Pearland High School they won’t allow the page because they believe it would encourage other teenagers to also take their own lives.
In a statement, the Pearland school district says that no decision has been made regarding the request and “we intend to discuss this with the family at the appropriate time.”
A petition on Change.org that is asking the school district to allow the “In Memoriam” page has gathered more than 5,200 signatures.
Hollis died Sunday.
