PHOENIX (AP) - A state Senate committee has voted to keep the Arizona Parks Board instead of deferring to the head of State Parks.

The Senate Government Committee on Wednesday voted to keep the board by amending a bill that would have eliminated the agency’s citizen oversight group. The bill looks to eliminate several boards and committees.

The amendment, introduced by Republican Sen. John Kavanagh of Fountain Hills, took out all provisions that transferred duties from the parks board to the State parks director.

The move comes amid allegations of misconduct by State Parks Director Sue Black. Claims that Black made inappropriate remarks led to an investigation that later cleared Black, but Gov. Doug Ducey has said his office would be working with her on management issues.
