NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Police in Arkansas say a man was fatally shot by police after approaching an officer while carrying a knife.
North Little Rock Police Sgt. Brian Dedrick told reporters the man was shot following a pursuit that ended near the Grant-Jefferson County line when he crashed into a guardrail.
Dedrick says an officer broke out a window of the man’s vehicle and a police dog went into the vehicle and was stabbed in the face. Dedrick says the man then got out and moved toward an officer while carrying a knife and was shot.
The names of the man and the officer were not immediately released.
Dedrick says the officer is on paid leave and state police are investigating the shooting and that the police dog is recovering.
