BEND, Ore. (AP) - A river’s waters in central Oregon are higher than they have been in about 10 years because of melting snow.
The Bend Bulletin reports (https://bit.ly/2nK4izI ) that sections of a hiking trail in Smith Rock State Park are blocked by the Crooked River’s water and four holes at a Prineville golf course are underwater.
Oregon Department of Water Resources Regional Manager Kyle Gorman says the Bowman Dam is releasing roughly 3,000 cubic feet of water per second into the river. Gorman says the amount of water currently discharged is three times its typical amount for this time of year.
The Bureau of Reclamation says the Prineville Reservoir created by the dam is at 89 percent of capacity.
