NEW YORK (AP) - New York Rep. Daniel Donovan says he plans to vote “no” on the Republican party’s health care overhaul bill.
Writing in the Staten Island Advance (https://bit.ly/2nDrE9V ) Wednesday, the Republican congressman says the American Health Care Act as currently written is not in best interests of his 740,000 constituents.
He says one of the provisions in the bill would especially harm hospitals in Brooklyn and Staten Island, which could lose more than $77 million. Senior citizens would also be impacted.
Donovan says the bill doesn’t address the big drivers of skyrocketing health costs: pharmaceutical prices and medical malpractice suits.
Donovan praised President Donald Trump for his commitment to fix the health care system and says he remains committed to replacing Obamacare.
A House vote on the measure is planned for Thursday.
