AURORA, Colo. (AP) - A Colorado family has been reunited with its dog after DNA tests showed it is not a wolf hybrid.
Aurora Animal Control picked up the family pet last month after it escaped from a yard. Officials classified the 11-year-old animal named Capone as being part wolf and refused to return him.
The Aurora Sentinel reports (https://goo.gl/o4MrYX ) city officials acknowledged Wednesday that Capone is not a wolf hybrid or a dangerous animal. The dog is a German Shepherd-Labrador mix.
Tito Serrano, who owns the dog with Tracy Abbato, pleaded guilty to not having Capone’s rabies inoculation and city registration tags up-to-date, and having a dog running at-large. The two more serious charges - owning a wild or exotic animal and owning an aggressive or dangerous animal - were dropped.
