COLONIE, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say three people have been injured and more than 100 are displaced after a fire broke out inside a suburban Albany apartment building.
Fire officials in the town of Colonie (kah-luh-NEE’) say the blaze was reported around 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Towne Towers apartments, located across the street from a fire station.
Town fire officials say the blaze broke out in a second-floor apartment and quickly sent smoke into the upper floors. Crews doused the fire quickly but more than 100 people who evacuated the five-story building were told they had to spend the night elsewhere because of smoke and water damage.
Officials say one of the three people injured suffered serious burns.
Fire officials say the fire started when a man left a frying pan full of oil on a stove too long. He was among the injured.
