PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A man charged in a hit-and-run death of another man at a northeast Philadelphia bus shelter has been acquitted of leaving the scene of a fatal accident but convicted of a lesser charge.

The Philadelphia Inquirer (https://bit.ly/2nkpzPx ) reports that jurors convicted 36-year-old John Cook of causing a fatal accident while driving with a suspended license but couldn’t reach a verdict Tuesday on involuntary manslaughter and vehicular homicide counts.

Police said 50-year-old Alejo Molina was waiting for a bus in the rain May 24 when Cook’s sedan hit the shelter, and the driver then walked over, looked at Molina and fled. Cook testified that he didn’t know he hit anybody and walked away dazed.

Prosecutors were ordered to decide by April 10 on retrying Cook on the homicide charges.
