ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - A longtime conman has been sentenced to 6 years on charges including theft after an illegally built shack in Aspen led to his arrest.
The Aspen Daily News reports (https://bit.ly/2nwqtJw ) that citing his long criminal history, a judge on Monday imposed the stiff sentence on 57-year-old James Hogue.
Hogue was arrested at a library last year sometime after he had grabbed a go-bag and jumped out a window of an illegally built cabin before officers could speak with him.
On Monday, a judge said Hogue’s criminal history spans decades. News sources report some of Hogue’s past exploits include lying to get into Princeton and a case involving thefts near Telluride. His exploits have been the subject of a documentary and a profile in The New Yorker.
