PHOENIX (AP) - A teenager has died and five other people were injured when a 23-year-old driver in west Phoenix left the roadway and struck pedestrians before colliding with other vehicles.

Police say 17-year-old Hailey Newton died from injuries suffered in Sunday afternoon’s collision.

Newton was among five pedestrians on a sidewalk when the collision occurred.

A 7-year-old boy who was critically injured remains in the hospital.

The remaining pedestrians were treated for injuries that weren’t life-threatening.

The 23-year-old man who collided with the pedestrians suffered significant injuries.
