SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - A trial has been scheduled for a Chicopee man charged with fatally shooting a teenager who he thought was breaking into his home.

Jeffrey Lovell is charged with manslaughter in the July slaying of 15-year-old Dylan Francisco.

Francisco and two others knocked on Lovell’s door believing it was a friend’s house. Lovell’s wife woke him up around 1 p.m. and said someone was trying to break in.

Police say Lovell told the group to leave, but that they continued banging on the door until a window broke. They say he then fired a shot through the door.

The Republican reports (https://bit.ly/2mHEzUW ) more than a dozen people wearing “Justice for Dylan” shirts attended a hearing Monday when the Sept. 8 trial date was set.

The 43-year-old Lovell has pleaded not guilty.
