CAMP VERDE, Ariz. (AP) - A $62 million project to widen nine miles of a state highway in the Verde Valley begins Monday.

The Arizona Department of Transportation says State Route 260 between Cottonwood and the junction with Interstate 17 in Camp Verde will become a four-lane divided highway with seven new roundabout intersections.

The department says the project will improve safety and traffic flow in the growing area.

The highway is currently a two-lane highway in that area, and the department says one travel lane in each direction will be maintained through the project.

It’s expected to take 18 months to complete.
