NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) - A man has been charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run after he arrived at a hospital the next morning with serious injuries that police say he had suffered in the crash.
News outlets report that 81-year-old Doris Jean Wright, of Gloucester, died from injuries she suffered in a three-vehicle collision in York County on Monday night. Police say the driver of a rental car who caused the crash had fled the scene on foot and could not be found.
Virginia State Police spokeswoman Sgt. Michelle Anaya says they believe 32-year-old Arthur Lee Harris, who admitted himself into a Newport News hospital Tuesday morning, was the driver of that rental car.
Harris is charged with involuntary manslaughter and felony hit-and-run. His condition was not immediately known.
