RENO, Nev. (AP) - A former Reno police officer has lost his lawsuit accusing the city of forcing him to resign after he complained of corruption and harassment by other members of the police department.
A federal jury rejected former Sgt. Jim Stegmaier’s claim and sided with the city on Monday.
Reno City Attorney Karl Hall told the Reno Gazette-Journal (https://tinyurl.com/hl3362r) the city plans to ask a judge to force Stegmaier to reimburse the city more than $100,000 in legal expenses.
The scandal roiled the Reno Police Department in 2012.
The city said the dispute began after an internal affairs investigation determined Stegmaier pointed his gun at other officers.
Stegmaier raised complaints during that probe that a fellow sergeant sent him a pornographic text message. He also said he turned over a file with derogatory information about another member of the police force.
