PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A late winter storm is forecast to dump as much as a foot-and-a-half of snow on parts of Rhode Island.
State offices and schools across the state were closed preemptively ahead of the storm, expected to start early Tuesday.
Gov. Gina Raimondo and State Police Col. Ann Assumpico urged people to stay home if possible because of the expected heavy snow and strong winds, with the potential for blizzard conditions.
The National Weather Service says 12 to 18 inches of snow could accumulate and winds could gust up to 45 mph, with areas along the south coast getting around 8 to 12 inches.
The health department is encouraging people with special health care needs to enroll in the state’s registry before the storm, to help emergency officials in planning and caring for residents.
