NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - An investigation into allegations of sexual harassment and hostility against the North Providence Police Department found that complaints made by two female officers were “unfounded.”

The town-paid investigative report compiled by DeSisto Law was made public by North Providence Mayor Charles Lombardi Monday.

The nine-month probe did find evidence that officers regularly made vulgar comments and lewd jokes.

Lt. Diana Perez filed a federal lawsuit against the town, acting Police Chief Christopher Pelagio and other officials last year, alleging a hostile work environment.

The Providence Journal reports that Lombardi said at a press conference that the conduct isn’t what he expects, and Pelagio and the acting deputy chief would be disciplined.

Perez told the newspaper that Lombardi wouldn’t look at her during his remarks “because he knows it’s true.”
