THORNTON, Colo. (AP) - Police believe they have found the body of a 10-year-old girl who went missing during a heavy rainstorm north of Denver and are investigating how she died.

Police are still are waiting for the coroner to confirm that the body found Thursday in Thornton is that of Kiaya Campbell.

She was last seen during a storm Wednesday night when she became separated from a 15-year-old boy who was walking near her father’s house. Police spokesman Matt Barnes says the boy - the son of Kiaya’s father’s girlfriend - started running, and she didn’t follow.

Authorities were concerned Kiaya may have been swept away in a flash flood. The search was called off after the body was found about two miles from where she was last seen.
