Deadwood hotel flooded in January reopens after repairs

DEADWOOD, S.D. (AP) - A Deadwood hotel flooded by a broken main waterline in late January is back in service.

The Rapid City Journal reports (https://bit.ly/2t2cgmH ) that the 69-room Deadwood Comfort Inn and Suites reopened Thursday.

The waterline break unleashed about 70,000 gallons of water over the hotel’s first floor. General Manager Tracy Island described it as “an indoor lake.”

Repairs have taken four months. Most of the $1.3 million cost is being covered by insurance.

Island says all of the hotel’s 23 employees were kept on the payroll during the reconstruction period.
