LANHAM, Md. (AP) - A Washington neighborhood commissioner faces charges after his girlfriend said he attacked her at a grocery store.
Local outlets report that 27-year-old Kendall Simmons was arrested Tuesday in Lanham, Maryland. A Glenarden police report says Simmons became aggressive during an argument and punched her in the chest and bit her hand, drawing blood. Police say Simmons would not submit to arrest when he was found in the bathroom of a nearby restaurant, and officers used force to handcuff him.
Simmons is charged with second-degree assault and disorderly conduct. Online court records do not list a lawyer for Simmons.
Simmons is an elected member of the Advisory Neighborhood Commission 8E in southeast Washington. Washington’s ANCs are bodies of local government that issue advisory decisions on issues including liquor licenses and zoning.
