GRAND MARAIS, Minn. (AP) - Authorities say a Twin Cities high school teacher suffered cardiac arrest when he collapsed and died while running a race in northeastern Minnesota last month.
The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office released the cause of death of 41-year-old Jon Mathson of Eagan on Tuesday.
Officials say Mathson had coronary artery disease, a hardening of the arteries that supply blood to heart muscle. WDIO-TV (https://bit.ly/2sYBELf ) reports he had no medical history.
Mathson died May 20 while competing in the 25K Superior Spring Trail Race in Cook County. Authorities say first responders and an off-duty deputy worked to resuscitate Mathson, but he died at the scene.
Mathson taught earth science and chemistry at Eagan High School.
