JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) - Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in northwest Wyoming is offering novice mountain climbers a way to safely get the thrill of climbing without a rope.
The resort recently opened its new via ferrata.
The Jackson Hole News & Guide reports (https://bit.ly/2tDd4iR ) that the via ferrata is a protected climbing route that allows users to connect their harness to fixed cables via two lanyards with carabiners on each end. The cable is periodically fixed to the rock so any slip or mishap will result in the shortest and safest of falls.
Also, there are pegs that act as hand holds or steps up the rock face.
Six routes vary from an introductory climb to more difficult routes. No mountaineering or climbing experience is required.
Guides will lead people along the routes.
