TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a substitute teacher at a New Jersey middle school sexually assaulted a student.

Union County prosecutors say Nataly Lopez is also charged with aggravated sexual assault and child endangerment. It wasn’t known Saturday if she’s retained an attorney.

The 27-year-old Elizabeth resident worked for a firm that provides substitute teachers to school districts. She had taught at the middle school in Elizabeth, but was not a district employee.

Authorities say Lopez engaged in sexual acts with the male student in her vehicle while they were in Elizabeth on at least two occasions. They also say she exchanged sexually explicit messages with the boy online over the course of several weeks.

Authorities have not released the boy’s age or further details about him.
