“Transformers: The Last Knight” brought in just $15.7 million Wednesday, its first day in wide release in U.S. theaters. That makes it the worst opening day for the franchise, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

With numbers like that, the fifth Transformers flick is unlikely to bring in $65 million for Paramount by the end of its first weekend, THR estimates, and that despite being the only film opening on wide release this weekend.

This summer has been tough sledding for action-movie sequels and remakes. “The Mummy” disappointed Universal with a $31.7 million opening weekend and just $60.6 million to date. While the latest “Pirates of the Caribbean” outing earned Buena Vista Pictures a respectable $63 million in its opening weekend, nearly a month after its release it’s only brought in $153 million from the domestic box office, well shy of the $230 million product budget, according to numbers from BoxOfficeMojo.com.
