Southern Iowa teacher accused of having sex with student

ALBIA, Iowa (AP) - Authorities have accused a 29-year-old southern Iowa teacher with having sex with a student.

Court records say Zachary Simpson is charged with two counts of sexual exploitation by a school employee. A public phone listing for him couldn’t be found Thursday. His attorney didn’t immediately return a call from The Associated Press.

Court records say a 16-year-old girl reported that she and Simpson had sex at least twice.

The Ottumwa Courier reports (https://bit.ly/2sFJWHQ ) that Simpson was a teacher for the Albia Community School District who also taught driver’s education. The district acknowledges that a staffer has been charged but declines to provide information about Simpson or his district employment status.
