NEW ORLEANS (AP) - More than 100 guns are out of circulation in New Orleans after the city’s second annual gun buyback event.

Councilwoman Nadine Ramsey says 67 pistols, 19 shotguns and 26 rifles were collected at the event held last weekend. Gun owners received $100 for working handguns, shotguns or rifles and $200 for assault weapons.

Ramsey says the program’s goal is to reduce gun violence by offering residents a safe and anonymous way to dispose of firearms.
