PORT ORCHARD, Wash. (AP) - A 23-year-old man accused of fatally shooting another man and leaving his body on a remote road Kitsap County has pleaded guilty.
Andrew Gilbert could face up to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder Monday in Kitsap County Superior Court.
The Kitsap Sun says Gilbert had been charged with first-degree murder in the February death of 30-year-old Hector Apodaca.
Gilbert’s girlfriend, Hope Jones-Calhoun, pleaded guilty earlier this month to rendering criminal assistance.
Investigators say Gilbert told them he shot Apodaca, believing he was going to steal his BMW.
Court documents say Gilbert told investigators he was armed with a pistol while he and Apodaca drove to visit someone who lived in the Seabeck area, and that Apodaca had become “hostile.”
Gilbert told investigators that he got scared and shot Apodaca twice when the car was stopped.
