SUFFOLK, Va. (AP) - Officials say two missing jet skiers were found after they swam to safety when their jet skis stopped working.
News outlets report a 35-year-old man and a 50-year-old man went on a planned trip to the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel on Sunday at about 6:30 p.m.
Suffolk spokeswoman Diana Klink says when they didn’t return home, family members contacted the police and the U.S. Coast Guard, who then launched a search.
Crews found the two jet skis tied to a restaurant. Klink says the men ran into mechanical problems and swam for hours while towing the disabled jet skis. When the men reached the restaurant, they called their families to report that they were safe.
The two men were medically assessed, but were not taken to the hospital.
