PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say a Phoenix man was the wrong-way driver killed when his car collided with a truck on a freeway ramp early Thursday morning.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety identified the driver as 26-year-old Jose Manuel Lopez, who died after driving head-on into a truck and falling onto another ramp below.
The DPS says Lopez was driving southbound in northbound lanes of Interstate 17 for at least a mile before the wreck occurred on a ramp at the Interstate 10 interchange.
Authorities said the truck driver wasn’t injured.
Wrong-way drivers on Arizona freeways claimed at least seven lives in 2016 and at least four so far this year.
