CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (AP) - A 29-year-old man has been convicted in the 2013 death of a woman whose body was found in a Long Island nature preserve.
A Suffolk County jury on Monday convicted Fernando Romualdo, of Huntington Station, of murder in the death of 23-year-old Sarah Strobel. His attorney says Romualdo denies killing her.
The 2008 Whitman High School graduate’s body was discovered by a hiker on the side of a path at the Froehlich Farm Nature Preserve in Huntington.
Prosecutors say DNA evidence helped convict the suspect, who was serving in a state prison for raping a juvenile when he was arrested last year in Strobel’s death.
Romualdo is to be sentenced August 1.
