SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) - A new camping cabin is available next week for rent at Stone State Park in northwest Iowa’s Sioux City.
The stone building, originally constructed in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, was recently repurposed into a camping cabin that sleeps four, has heating and air conditioning and a small kitchenette.
The cabin is located in the campground near a modern restroom and shower building. The remodeling effort was funded jointly by the Friends of Stone Park, Missouri River Historical Development and the Iowa DNR. While some of the specialized work was contracted, Friends of Stone Park volunteers stained the wood, painted, installed windows, doors and flooring, and completed the exterior landscaping.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for Tuesday. It will be available for rent starting Thursday.
