VENETIA, Pa. (AP) - Investigators were trying to determine what caused a Pennsylvania house fire that left an 84-year-old man dead and sent his wife to the hospital.
The Washington County coroner identified the dead man as William Burton Phillips Sr.
Crews were called to his home in Peters Township shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday. He was found dead in the building, though the cause of his death was still being investigated early Friday.
His wife, 86-year-old Naomi Phillips, was rescued and taken to a hospital for unspecified reasons.
A neighbor says William Phillips was working on a generator hours before the fire, because a thunderstorm had knocked out power. It wasn’t immediately clear if that contributed to the fire.
