RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The city of Richmond will unveil its new monument honoring pioneering African-American entrepreneur Maggie Walker next month.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports (https://bit.ly/2stNtLO ) the monument to Walker will stand in Richmond’s Jackson Ward neighborhood. An unveiling and dedication will begin the morning of July 15.

Walker was the first African-American woman to charter a bank.



Mayor Levar Stoney said she was “an inspiration to women, African-Americans and entrepreneurs alike.”
