PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A Rhode Island man has pleaded not guilty to a first-degree murder charge in the stabbing death of another man in East Providence.

WJAR-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2t4lC23 ) 29-year-old James Stevens, of Providence, will continue to be held without bail following his arraignment Wednesday.

Stevens is charged with stabbing 24-year-old Jasper Williams, who died at a hospital.



Officials say Stevens repeatedly stabbed Williams outside the home he shared with his girlfriend in December 2016 following an argument.

U.S. Marshals had apprehended Stevens in El Paso, Texas after 18 days on the run. His attorney has previously declined comment.
