VERNAL, Utah (AP) - A subdivision in Utah had to be evacuated and a highway temporarily closed on Friday after a wildfire burned through the area.

The wildfire was reported at 1:40 p.m. west of Vernal. The Uintah County Sheriff’s Office called for the subdivision in Maeser to evacuate at about 3 p.m. after the fire spread to about 300 acres.

The highway was closed for several hours but has since been reopened. The evacuation order has been lifted.
