WESTFIELD, N.J. (AP) - Prosecutors say an off-duty New Jersey state trooper who hit a 14-year-old teenager with his patrol car and killed her will not be charged.
Union County prosecutors announced Wednesday it was a “tragic accident” and their investigation did not determine a basis for criminal charges. Acting Union County Prosecutor Grace Park says the determination was made after an investigation involving the prosecutor’s office and Westfield police
The trooper, who has not been publically identified, struck Theresa “Terry” DiFalco with his vehicle on March 4. DiFalco was pronounced dead at the scene. The trooper remained at the scene.
DiFalco was participating in a scavenger hunt that evening with friends before she was struck by the trooper’s car.
