SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - A man was ordered to spend one year in jail for causing a wrong-way crash that injured two women.
The Santa Fe New Mexican reported (https://bit.ly/2qKIp0d ) Wednesday the judge sentenced Jose Sanchez-Vasquez Jr. to a year in the Santa Fe County jail because of the physical and emotional pain he caused the victims and their families.
Sanchez-Vasquez’s attorney, Raul Lopez, asked the judge to sentence his client to four and a half years of supervised probation.
In October 2015, Sanchez-Vasquez was driving north in the southbound lane of a frontage road, causing the crash that injured his passenger, Martha Chalan, and Lisa Hayes, the driver of another vehicle.
Chalan suffered two broken legs and a fractured vertebra. Hayes has only been able to work part-time because of her health condition.
