PHOENIX (AP) - A man is in custody in connection with an assault on two Phoenix police officers last weekend.

Police say 23-year-old Derek Johnson has been booked into jail on suspicion of armed robbery and attempted first-degree murder.

They say Johnson had an outstanding warrant for an armed robbery last December.

It was unclear Friday if he has a lawyer yet.

Police say Johnson was arrested Thursday after detectives received tips generated from a composite sketch.

He allegedly fired shots at two police officers last Sunday.

The officers weren’t injured, but the bullets damaged their police cruiser.
