SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - A 118-acre tract of rose gardens in Louisiana is closed to the public for a few days so pine trees can be removed.

The American Rose Center in Shreveport says it plans to be closed through Thursday to remove more than 120 trees.

The center’s executive director, Laura Seabaugh, tells The Times of Shreveport that the trees have grown so tall that they diminish the sunlight that the roses need.

The tree removal is part of a new five-year master plan to rejuvenate the gardens and restore the health of the roses at the northwest Louisiana tourist attraction. The temporary shutdown began Monday and was expected to last through Thursday.
