LOS ANGELES (AP) - Transit officials have agreed to spend more than $138 million to buy 95 electric buses for Los Angeles County - a big first step toward the goal of an emissions-free fleet.
The Los Angeles Times says (https://lat.ms/2tPrdx4 ) the purchases approved Thursday by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority are among the largest of any U.S. transit agency.
The MTA has set a goal of eliminating tailpipe emissions by 2030.
The newspaper says when the electric buses begin running, they will represent less than 5 percent of Metro’s fleet - but they will at least double the number of electric buses in use in California.
