RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Several homes were damaged by lightning strikes as severe thunderstorms moved through central parts of North Carolina over the weekend.
Authorities say two homes in Wake County suffered strikes early Sunday evening. In Fayetteville, a lightning strike just after 8 p.m. caused a fire that damaged about 30 percent of a home, displacing a family of five and their dog.
No one was hurt.
Severe thunderstorm warnings and flood advisories were in place throughout much of the area into Sunday evening. The storms brought with them relief from triple-digit temperatures in parts of North Carolina, with forecasters expecting highs about 10 degrees lower on Monday.
