OPINION:
Of all the life-threatening medical maladies a government could mandate others pay for, Oregon dictated that procured abortions be provided for all (“Oregon House Democrats pass bill providing free abortions for all, including illegal aliens,” Web, July 2). The desperation and insecurity of those who propose that abortion is a choice couldn’t be any clearer.
To have others, wittingly or unwittingly, sanction your actions creates the aura of acceptability. Disguising one’s deeds by forcing others to abet them permits a person to rationalize the correctness of his or her actions. The behavior then ceases to be beyond the pale. Well, Oregon just made the pale larger.
The most recent straw man used, the phrase “reproductive freedom,” simply confuses the issue briefly. How long can abortion proponents avoid answering the question of when a person gains the inviolable right to life? Or, to pose the same question in another form: When is it not OK to hit someone in the head with baseball bat?
Bruce Springsteen and others boycotted North Carolina. Let us treat Oregon as the pariah it is, and boycott it.
