APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. (AP) - Firefighters ventured into swift-flowing water on a flooded street in Apache Junction to rescue a driver trapped in a car with water nearly up to its hood.

After reaching the woman’s car during the rescue Monday morning, the four firefighters had her put on a life vest and helmet before they all walked in a group back to dry ground.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for Maricopa and Pinal counties due to runoff from heavy rain showers and thunderstorms.
