ELKINS PARK, Pa. (AP) - Authorities are trying to determine the cause of an early morning fire that claimed the lives of an elderly couple near Philadelphia.

Officials in Montgomery County say the blaze in Elkins Park was reported at about 4:30 a.m. Sunday. Cheltenham Deputy Fire Chief Timothy Shuck said a neighbor woke up smelling smoke and saw fire coming from the home.

Shuck said a man and woman in their 90s were found dead in a bedroom on the first floor. Their names weren’t immediately released.

Shuck said fire crews have to move a lot of debris before they can begin to investigate the cause of the blaze.
