MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) - A former southern Oregon teacher facing trial on criminal sexual abuse charges is being sued in federal court by his alleged victim.

The Mail-Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/2uVSX3b) that the alleged victim has filed a civil lawsuit against Jeffrey Zundel, a former Crater High School teacher, and the Central Point School District.

Her lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Medford in May alleges the district has previous knowledge of Zundel’s alleged inappropriate behavior and was negligent.

The district and Zundel denied the allegations in documents filed in the case.

Meanwhile, Zundel’s criminal trial is set for next month in Jackson County Circuit Court. He has pleaded not guilty to 11 felony counts of second-degree sexual abuse.

Zundel was arrested in October 2015. He was fired later that year for gross neglect of duty following an internal investigation.
