WILLIAMS, Ariz. (AP) - The state Department of Transportation is about to start rebuilding a five-mile section of Interstate 40 west of Williams in northern Arizona.
ADOT says work to rebuilding I-40 between mileposts 156 and 161 from the ground up because of damage from winter weather begins Monday with work on eastbound lanes.
Eastbound traffic headed for Williams and Flagstaff will use a temporary road to cross the median and then share lanes with westbound traffic through the project area, with one lane of travel in each direction.
ADOT says the $34 million project includes laying a new foundation and will continue next summer with rebuilding the westbound lanes.
