RESTON, Va. (AP) - The former treasurer of a Washington-area high school booster club has been charged with embezzling at least $60,000 from the organization.
News outlets report that 58-year-old Robert Clinage turned himself in to Fairfax County police on July 12. Police say members of the Seahawks Booster Club at South Lakes High School in Reston, Virginia, noticed a large amount of money missing from its account shortly after Clinage stepped down last year.
A police investigation began in December 2016. Clinage was not an employee of the school, as booster clubs are independent of school systems.
Clinage’s court hearing is scheduled for Sept. 20. It’s unclear if he has a lawyer.
