NEWARK, Del. (AP) - A blood bank based in Delaware is urging donors to make or keep their appointments over the holiday weekend.
The Newark-based Blood Bank of Delmarva said in a press release Thursday that its greatest need is for O Negative, the universal blood type. But the center said patients in the community need all blood types.
The blood bank said that many blood centers along the East Coast are issuing emergency appeals. There was a critical nationwide shortage this time last year. The Blood Bank of Delmarva said it’s doing all it can this year to alleviate a similar situation.
The blood bank’s centers will be open during normal business hours to make it as convenient as possible for people to donate. The centers are located in Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland.
